Number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, vectors, graphs and problem-solving, with the exam technique to back it up.
One-to-one GCSE tutoring with Luís Gil, a final-year medical student at the University of Manchester who got top grades of his own. Expect clear teaching, plenty of past-paper practice and a plan that fits your child.
I'm a final-year medical student at the University of Manchester and a GCSE Maths and Science tutor. I went to The Manchester Grammar School, where I got the top grade in all 11 of my GCSEs and A*A*A*D1 at A-level (Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Economics). So I've been right through the same system your child is in now, and I know what the top grades actually take.
Lessons run live on Microsoft Teams. I use an iPad and Apple Pencil as a shared whiteboard, so it feels a lot like sitting next to each other. The way I teach is simple. I explain a topic clearly, then we work through real exam-board questions together, and every mistake becomes something we learn from.
I went on to study Medicine, graduating First Class from St Andrews, and I'm now in my clinical years at Manchester. Six years of medical training has made me a calm and patient communicator, which is really what tutoring comes down to. I can explain difficult things simply and help a student feel they can do it.
Outside of medicine and tutoring, I'm a keen triathlete and hiker, and I love cooking and getting stuck into a good book. Keeping a proper life outside of studying is part of what I try to pass on to my students too.
Foundation and Higher tier, across all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR). Combined and Triple Science welcome.
Number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, vectors, graphs and problem-solving, with the exam technique to back it up.
Forces, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism and space, plus the required practicals and the maths skills examiners like to test.
Atomic structure, bonding, quantitative chemistry, organic chemistry and rates, taught so it makes sense rather than being memorised.
Cells, organisation, infection, bioenergetics, homeostasis and ecology, taught by someone who uses it every day in medicine.
A relaxed 20-minute call to talk through the student's target grade, exam board and where they're getting stuck.
I map out the topics to cover before the exam and build each lesson around the gaps that matter most.
Live teaching on a shared Microsoft Teams whiteboard, then real past-paper questions worked through together so technique improves every session.
Short notes after each lesson so parents always know what we covered and what's improving.
Every lesson is 60 minutes, one-to-one and live online. The first consultation is always free.

I earned interviews at all four of the medical schools I applied to, including Cambridge, then went on to graduate First Class and win a few academic scholarships before joining Manchester's clinical school. I can help with every stage of the application, from the UCAT right through to the final interview.
Section-by-section strategy and timed practice across the four subtests (verbal reasoning, decision making, quantitative reasoning and situational judgement) to push your score into the top band.
The four pillars of medical ethics, your motivation for medicine and current hot topics, building up to full mock MMI circuits as your interview gets closer.
Honest review and redrafting of your written application, including the new structured questions that have replaced the old personal statement essay.
Choosing the right schools for your UCAT score and academic profile, so every one of your four choices counts.
Lessons run live on Microsoft Teams. I use an iPad and Apple Pencil as a shared whiteboard, so you can see every step as I write it, much like sitting next to each other. I'll usually ask the student to have a tablet or a printed worksheet to hand so we can work through questions together. In-person lessons in South Manchester are available on request.
All the major ones: AQA, Edexcel and OCR, for both Combined and Triple Science, at Foundation and Higher tier. Just tell me the board and I'll tailor everything to it.
Nothing is charged when you book. Weekday lessons are £45/hr and weekend mornings (Saturday and Sunday) are £50/hr. After your free consultation I'll send a simple invoice, or you can pay securely by card. You can pay per lesson or save with a block, and blocks stay valid for six months.
Lessons can be rescheduled free with at least 24 hours' notice; cancellations inside 24 hours may be charged. Any unused lessons in a block can be refunded at any point within the six-month validity. Just let me know and I'll sort it out.
No problem. Lessons can be moved at no cost as long as I get at least 24 hours' notice.
Yes. I regularly tutor Years 7 to 9 in Maths and Science to build strong foundations well before GCSE.
A couple of reasons. Medical school spends six years training us in how to communicate, which means explaining complicated things simply and putting people at ease, and that is most of what good tutoring is. On top of that, I sat these same exams fairly recently and got the top grades, so I know the material well and I know the exam technique that actually picks up marks.
